    Apple is on a machine learning company buying spree. After buying Perceptio at the end of 2015 and Turi just a few months ago, Apple has now acquired an India/US-based machine learning team, Tuplejump.

     

    “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” Apple spokesman Colin Johnson said.

  • Pepperfry raises Rs 210 cr from NVP and others

    Online furniture and home decor marketplace Pepperfry has raised Rs 210 crore as part of a new round of funding from existing investors Goldman Sachs, Norwest Venture Partners, Bertelsmann India Investments and Zodius Technology Fund.

  • Do not turn ON your Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on Airplanes: DGCA

    The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has banned passengers from carrying Samsung Galaxy 7 in switch on mode on flights.


    "In light of the recent incidents involving battery incidents with Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 devices globally, travelling public and airlines are advised not to switch on these mobiles during the flight or stow them in any checked in baggage," read a DGCA order issued today.


    It is one of the first times that the DGCA has warned people about a specific device.

    In world wide, Singapore Airlines, Qantas and Virgin Australia say they are telling passengers not to turn on Samsung Galaxy 7 or charge them on flights.

  • Amazon India to invest in Swiggy?

    Amazon India is considering an investment in online food delivery startup Swiggy and has held several rounds of discussions with the Bengaluru-based startup over the past three months.

    Swiggy, which has raised about $72 million so far, is yet to achieve break-even. It counts Accel Partners, Norwest Venture Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners as main investors.


    Swiggy is fulfilling close to 40,000 orders per day.  It competes with Zomato and Rocket Internet's Foodpanda. At its last round of funding in August, the company was valued at an estimated $190-200 million (Rs 1,300-1,350 crore).
